Day 21 - Swolgen to Venlo, Oct. 1

After the taxi came at 9:20 this morning to take our luggage, we happily left sleepy Swolgen behind. But not before walking into another person's bedroom yesterday at the B & B by accident. She had not locked her door and was sipping tea in bed. Could have been worse. We had breakfast this morning in a very cluttered kitchen. Someone's idea of cosy.
Very soon after leaving Swolgen we were in fields and woods again. Just lovely! We are in the Maas River valley and walked through some swamps as well as a cut off section of the Maas. And, of course, another ferry across that River.
Just before Grubbenvorst we met a wonderful woman out walking and had a great chat with her. She told us there were places to eat in that town. You would think so with a name like that. We found a lovely patio in the sunshine but this turned out to be a very sophisticated ice cream place. We reluctantly ordered waffles with warm cherries and whipping cream. This went down rather well. We were fuelled again for the afternoon.
Lots of Catholic things here. Little chapels here and there and a large Ursuline Cloister in Grubbenvorst.
We also came across the Pilgrim route sign again.
The afternoon was spent walking along the Maas, dodging some cattle,  and making our way into Venlo. This is a rather big city and it looks very cosy with tables and chairs outside everywhere. Should be fun tomorrow.
Right now we are showered and resting up in our small but private room (and own bathroom).
Oh, yes. We did come across another self serve place where we had a cup of coffee. And we could help ourselves to some toffees "for the journey". I love those places!

  1. You sure had a lot of variety today: sandy path, boardwalk through a swamp, and an oxbow lake! Nice red mushroom shot!! Have a great rest day tomorrow.
